Experiment Update

Back in October we began an experiment to see if we would have less (or no) illness if we supplemented with vitamin D. Since we are about halfway through the time of year that our family typically experiences a lot of illness, I figure it's time to give a report on how this is going.

Here is the rundown: since we began supplementation, everyone has had at least one illness and Eggs on Toast and Buttermilk Sky have been ill twice. Each boy has had a mild sore throat with a cough that lasted about a week. Eggs and Buttermilk each had a separate bout with something that was like a cold with a runny nose. Brandon and I have both had some intestinal thing. So we have all had something, however, it was all mild.

In conclusion, I would say that the vitamin D is definitely working because this is much less illness than we usually have. Normally all of us would have had at least one illness that involved some or all of the following: a high fever, throwing up, achiness, and sleeping in bed for several days. As for me, personally, I don't think I have ever been this healthy for this long. I am excited to see how we fare during the last half of the winter. So, to be continued...

An Experiment

Our family has had excellent health all spring and summer (up until this past week). It has been great. Then when Onion Ring became ill and subsequently Eggs on Toast, I decided it was time to act on some information that I have been reading quite a bit of lately, and that is supplementing with vitamin D. (Here is a very good article about the topic: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2009/10/10/Vitamin-D-Experts-Reveal-the-Truth.aspx.) Furthermore, I was talking to a friend this week who just happened to mention that her family took vitamin D all winter last year and none of them got sick at all, confirming what I had read. I went and bought some vitamin D that day and have since been feeding it to all of us, and since the first two boys got sick, no one else has. (And it could be the swine flu because a boy in Onion Ring's class at school just had it.) Coincidence--or has the v-D started working already? I guess we'll find out. Typically in our family during the winter season, someone is always sick. Well, I'm sick of it! So maybe this will help. I'll let you know.
