Farewell Carson City

Obviously, my blog posting has been sporadic/nonexistent for some time, so this post is a tad bit after the fact.  We moved in June this past summer back to Utah.  It was bitter-sweet because while we hadn't been especially thrilled about moving to Carson City, we grew to love many things about it, and it was very hard to leave.  We all had made a lot of good friends, and really miss them.  Here are some other things that we especially miss...

I really miss the two places that I used to go hiking/running a couple of times every week.  Pictured below is Ash Canyon, which was about a couple of miles away from our house.  It was beautiful, and peaceful.  This was also a favorite place for family hikes and the older boys liked to bike ride with their friends.

The other place was "C" Hill, which was just a couple of blocks from our house.  Strangely, the only picture I have was during graduation week when the high school seniors moved all of the rocks that make up the "C" to make a "15" (for graduating class of 2015).  I don't know how they do it, because that's a lot of heavy rocks to move!  That thing is big.  But somehow they did, and then it got moved back to a "C".

I loved the view, and the challenge--it's kind of steep.

We really miss the Strings in the Schools program.  Eggs on Toast and Junior participated for three years and they really enjoyed it.

Their teacher was really great.

Every morning on the way to Eggs' and Junior's school, we passed this house.  We called it the "Weird House" because the yard decor was what I would call, "Eclectic Reclaimed Wacko Halloween" and it was continually being added to.  We always looked forward to seeing if anything new had been erected and we always marveled at its strangeness/coolness/creepiness.

Robots...

...disturbed zombie woman on a horse...

...plane crashing into the side of the house...and this is only a sampling.

Cali wasn't able to come with us, so we miss her.  Luckily, we found a good owner for her.

Not pictured:  Onion Ring and Buttermilk Sky really miss their debate teacher and team.  Their teacher was engaging and excellent and their favorite of all time, and their team was quite varied, skilled, and fun.

And of course we miss Lake Tahoe!  Onion Ring and Buttermilk Sky don't care about it so much, but the rest of us do, and me, especially.  I just love that place!

Hiking C Mountain

It is time to do some catching up!  I have many posts coming soon, and I'll begin with this one.

A couple of months ago, as soon as the snow abated, we attempted hiking to the "C".  It just so happens that similar to the "Y" Mountain in Provo, there is a "C" Mountain here and we live very close to it.  The path is a little more rugged and the "C" is much smaller, but still a very steep hike.

The boys have dubbed this outcropping of rock "Weathertop".  (They will highly esteem anyone who knows the reference.)

We had a great view of Carson City.

Below are many of the government buildings.

It turned out that on this hike we didn't actually make it to the "C" because it was extremely cold and windy after we got above the sheltered area and there was also still a lot of snow and ice.  Some of us wimped out (not me, of course--I would never do that).

Onion Ring's and Buttermilk Sky's friend came along.

Strangely, I never took any pictures of the "C".  Maybe next time!
