Have you ever built something out of legos?  This guy sure has.

It's shocking!

The artist, Nathan Sawaya (self portrait pictured above), had an exhibit of his art at the Kimball Art Center in Park City while we were visiting so we went to see.

All of his art was made entirely out of legos.  All of the legos that he uses are purchased in sets from the store, the same as most people buy legos.

The thought of creating "art" out of legos was novel to me.  We thought it was very cool.

The "pop-up" book was the favorite of most of the boys.

The one pictured below was my favorite and also Onion Ring's.

Buttermilk Sky deeply contemplated the experience.

The Year of the Saw Blade

What do you think of this cake made by the Silly Grandma for Brandon's birthday?

Totally wicked, or what? It's actually rather appropriate because Brandon has waxed productive in the shop of late, finishing some projects that had been left waiting for a while and gearing up to start some new ones.

We'll do some show and tell of Brandon's projects later, but for now I want to show some of the things the boys made for his birthday.

The artwork below is by Junior. Can you tell who is who? When asked what all the little dots were all over the paper, he said (with a huge grin), "Celebration!"

This is by Eggs on Toast. He said it is a house boat and Brandon is the driver.

Onion Ring spent a lot of time making this game for Brandon, called "Retro". Here are the instructions:

What thoughtful boys (and Grandma)! I think Brandon felt very luved.

Pious Pictures

The boys drew these pictures during church on Sunday.

First, there was this robot by Onion Ring. (To view detail, click on the image to enlarge.)

Then there was this robot by Buttermilk Sky.

And this robot by Junior.

Then, hark! Not a robot but a map by Eggs on Toast. Eggs has been drawing maps for the past two years and not just a few here and there, but many, many maps which he then crumples up and rolls up to appear aged. Interestingly, his great grandfather (the Ice Cream Grandpa) was a map maker by profession.

So now you know what church meetings inspire in our boys.

Lastly, here is an example of artwork from two Sundays ago. Aside from maps, Eggs specializes in monsters.

Should I be worried?

Wishing You a Happy New Year

This Christmas gift caused great excitement amongst the boys.

Buttermilk Sky used it as a model for this still life.

And even though General Grievous is not a very pleasant guy and doesn't represent anything good at all, I am using him in this post to wish everyone a happy New Year because

a. the boys think he is the coolest thing ever, and

b. I wanted to show off Buttermilk Sky's artwork. Didn't he do a great job?

So here are my thoughts on the matter: let's all strive for the opposite of the General and make this a good and excellent year!
