Last Day of School

Today was the much anticipated Last Day.

All of the elementary school boys had great teachers this year. (Poor Junior had the sun in his eyes.)







Onion Ring thought middle school was way better than elementary school (and made sure to let the younger boys know it). He had some really excellent teachers, too. (And one not excellent at all teacher--but at least it was only one!)

Do you like this staged photo (below)? Onion Ring and his friend were so nice to walk down the front walk so I could take a picture. Onion Ring would never have consented to such a thing if his friend hadn't.

Amazingly enough, this is the same middle school that both the Ice Cream Grandma and Grandpa attended. It was brand new back then.



And now let the fun (ie: slavery to me) begin!!! They think they'll be playing all summer? Think again!!(Insert evil laughing.)

This is Halloween!

To kick off our Halloween celebration we trick-or-treated the Ice Cream Grandma and Grandpa's house to show off our costumes and visit.

It almost looks like the Ice Cream Grandpa is dressed up like a Ninja, too!

Happy 90th!

The Ice Cream Grandma turned 90 last week.

Yowza--90!!

She probably has about twenty good years ahead of her.

Isn't she adorable? And still sharp as a tack. She can cream anyone at Jeopardy so watch out.

Here are a few tidbits about the Ice Cream Grandma:
She loves the name Ginger and will answer to it with a smile.
She is a great granddaughter of Brigham Young (an early Mormon prophet).
She worked as a secretary at Stanford University for 16 years.
She worked as a secretary in the Philippines for the army during World War II.
She graduated from LDS Business College and got a B.A. in English and Secondary Education from BYU.
She loves to play the "Do you know so-and-so?" game and find connections with people--and she often does.
She takes copious notes of every phone call in their home (time, date, person, subject).
She loves to serve ice cream.
She loves to eat ice cream!

Here are a few tidbits of what was going on in the world in 1920:
Isaac Asimov, Maureen O'Hara, and Mickey Rooney were born.
The Eighteenth Amendment to the US Constitution (Prohibition) went into effect just two days after Grandma's birth.
The Nineteenth Amendment to the US Constitution was passed (Women's Suffrage).
It was announced that Babe Ruth was sold to the Yankees.
The Bauhaus had been open for a year.
World War I had ended two years before.
Hitler,on the cusp of his rise to power, began full time participation in the National Socialist German Workers Party and made his first public political speech.
Commercial radio broadcasting began.
Movies (silent until the later 20's) were very popular.

What amazing things she has been through! We are grateful to have her in our lives.

A Birthday, Ice Cream, and Perpetual Motion

The Ice Cream Grandpa turned ninety-one this week.

He always says, "Every day's a bonus!"


We went to wish him a happy birthday.


We also went to see the Ice Cream Grandma home from the hospital, feeling much better.




People have asked where are the pictures of me, so here's one.


Grandpa had something to give to the boys.


He called it "perpetual motion". The perpetual motion of the boys nearly ceased as they watched this perpetual motion.


My photos don't do this contraption justice and describing it is not easy, but I'll try. A stick swings around with a ball attached to a string that wraps around the other stick then it unwinds and goes the other way and it goes back and forth gradually unwinding the rubber band. Never mind. Just come to our house and see. The boys were thrilled.


Our visit was complete with ice cream.
