Ohhhhh in Mexico...

All of the photos in this post are courtesy of Lori (except the last three).  She is an awesome photographer, so I'm grateful she is so willing to share.  These next two photos were taken from the top floor of our condo building.  I love the color of the ocean.

In the bottom right hand corner of this picture, you can see the boys playing in the sand.

The building below is our condo.  We loved being right on the beach.

This was on the way to Ensenada.

Ensenada is about an hour south of Rosarito.  It is a cruise-ship port town, so it was nice and touristy.  This woman was selling her wares--I love this picture!

Thug life.

It was so fun to be serenaded while we ate dinner.

On our last night we had a fire on the beach and set off some Mexican fireworks to celebrate the new year.  Things got way more exciting than we bargained for when a firework exploded in Brandon's hand.

We got to visit this place...

...and we feel so grateful that no one else was burned, and it was only a hand, not a face, and that the burns did not go through all the skin layers, so nothing more than pain killers and burn cream were needed.

Ouchy!

Thankfully, it's all healed, now.  Okay, let's end this post with something nice...

Ahhh, that's better.

Feliz Navidad

(We weren't actually in Mexico for Christmas, but "Feliz Año Nuevo" just doesn't have the same ring as "Feliz Navidad," hence the misleading title.)

We drove to Rosarito, Mexico a couple of days after Christmas and stayed for about a week.  Our condo was right on a very secluded (almost completely empty) beach.

Rosarito is a town on the coast, a little south of Tijuana.  It was the boys' first time experiencing another country.

Even though the water temps were not all that warm (guessing high 50's, low 60's) and the air temps were in the mid 60's most of the week, it felt so awesome after leaving the single digits in Utah (the car thermometer actually read -5 as we were driving through Mona, Utah).  We spent a lot of time on the beach and playing in the surf.

After Lake Tahoe, cold water temperatures are no problem.  Getting in can be hard, but you get numb after about 5 minutes, and then it's all good.

The Silly Grandma came with us...

...and Aunt Lori!

Virginia City

We also took Lori and Grandma up to historic Virginia City, another very cool attraction nearby.  Virginia City was a mining boom-town established in the 1800's and preserved for us to experience.

I guess some people took their losses pretty hard.

Mark Twain was "born" in Virginia City, as it is the place in which Samuel Clemens first began using his pen name.

The boys like the name of the saloon pictured below.

This monument was built to commemorate the Comstock Load and contains ore from every Nevada county.

We witnessed a hold-up at the visitors' center.

The boys love the "Barrels of Candy" store.

St. Mary's in the Mountains Catholic Church is very impressive.

When we drove into Virginia City for the first time, I was really amazed that it was there.
