The Copper Mine

Many of you already know about the mine in our yard.

It was begun last year and has become a landmark in our neighborhood.

Late last summer there was a time when we could not find Junior. Finally I went outside and heard crying and saw the tip of his head peeking out of the mine. He had gotten in and couldn't get out. More responsible parents might have filled such a hole in at that point. Our reasoning is that boys like to be in dirt, they love to dig, and doesn't digging big holes build character in boys? (Name that movie.) Anyway, Junior is taller now.

Progress has been a little slower this year, but mines are still an enthralling thing to our boys.

So this weekend we took them to see the Kennecott Copper Mine. You can check it out here: http://www.kennecott.com/?id=MjAwMDA5Mg.

It's hard to tell how big these trucks are from so far away until you stand next to this tire from one of them.

Push harder!

Poor Junior.

Remember, what's yours is mined. (Sentiment courtesy of the visitor's center.)
